Top Narratives & Catalysts to Watch

November 2022

If you don’t have the time to spend all day researching what’s hot on crypto twitter, what narratives are driving markets, and what catalysts are worth watching, don’t worry, I got you. Below is a quick cheat sheet for all things exciting in crypto today (none of these are recommendations, please do your own research). As a reminder, I’ll have some paid work on some lower cap tokens late tonight, so be on the lookout for that as well.

Upcoming Catalysts/Narratives:

With smart money starting to allocate to alts again, catalysts can finally start meaning something in terms of price action. In no particular order, here are some of the interesting upcoming developments in crypto:

• ETH ~deflationary - Over the last month, even with pretty limited onchain activity, ETH supply has been deflationary. If activity picks up, this could help the medium term bull case for ETH

• YFI v3 - I covered the ramifications here. Not a highly followed catalyst, so could be interesting, and the launch should be any day now.

• GNS launching on Arbitrum: gTrade’s highly anticipated launch on Arbitrum is expected to be shortly after audits are complete ~11/21. Given the amount of degen money already trading on Arbitrum, it could be a meaningful catalyst to the project/token.

• DOGE Wealth Effects: GCR provides some interesting commentary regarding the rotation of DOGE gains into alts further along the risk curve. Worth watching some of the data that Ouroboros highlights in the reply. It looks like DOGE has topped out, so the rotation may already be underway.

  @salience_xbt important to realize a month, is not 2 days the market distributes wealth from the impatient to the patient when doge goes parabolic, it has typically catalyzed a wealth effect/rotation into other alts farther along risk curve; but first it has to top, for attention to shift

• Arbitrum Szn: Odyssey should restart soon and at some point the airdrop will come. Arbitrum is the most active place for smart money outside of ETH per our chainEDGE data, so there are definitely a lot of small cap plays on here worth watching (will talk about this more in tonight’s post). It feels like Arbitrum is set up to have a mini BSC season, except the projects are mostly real.

• GMX Synthetics Launch: GMX price action has been lagging GNS as of late, and the launch of Synthetics probably spurs a rotation back into the token. It sounds like contracts for Synthetics are being deployed, so the timing to launch should be relatively soon (my guess is launch by end of November based on discord commentary).

• Dydx v4 Launch: Have seen this one making the rounds, but won’t be until Q2-2023, so not really actionable near term. If this means fees actually go to token holders) could be bullish?

3⃣ With the full decentralization of the dYdX protocol, we believe the dYdX community should start thinking about the dYdX DAO at different time intervals: (a) today, (b) at the time of the Mainnet launch of dYdX V4 (scheduled for Q2 2023), and (c) beyond the launch of dYdX V4.⏳

• Trader Joe’s Liquidity Book: Sounds like JOE on Avalanche is launching a novel AMM soon. Have seen a small amount of smart money inflows (like 4 figures), so who knows if this will add a narrative to this beaten down coin

• Umami v2: The team is launching a revised version of their delta neutral vaults, and are aiming to onboard institutional capital. Not clear on timing, and they are working through modelling & whitepapers, so this is one to monitor.

• FXS Emissions Reduction: FXS emissions getting cut in half in December

• SYN Chain Launch: Not sure on timing, but will be a major catalyst for the token. If you see a reverse in trend of smart money balances, we should be getting close to launch:

• BONE / Shibarium: Still no launch date for SHIB’s L2, but given how much BONE has traded off, will get interesting around launch. The developers behind the network have commented that they are close to a public beta release, and at the same time the (official?) twitter account for the network went live in the past few days.

• rDPX v2: Wrote about this one here. It obviously did not launch by Halloween, and probably won’t be out by end of year at this rate. The project did tease a website for the launch, so maybe we are getting closer.

• CRV USD Launch: No idea on timing, but always sounds like it is soon. They also dropped a new UI (in anticipation of the launch?)

• CHZ and Fan Tokens ahead of the World Cup in 2 weeks

• Twitter Tokens: DOGE and MASK pumped on Elon’s purchase of Twitter. If he mentions any crypto integrations, these could catch a bid again
